Yael Shachar's First exhibition Photography Snow-white
Woman's sexuality is multifaceted. At first it is a naïve, unconscious Lolita sexuality, which naively misunderstands the meaning of temptation; over time it develops into a ripe sexuality which is connected to the feelings, wishes and desires of the mature woman.
Yael Shachars photographs encompass the full diapason of woman's sexuality, thereby touching our emotions by their complexity, while paradoxically moving between the naïve and the pervert, between sensuality and chastity, between vulnerability and power, between the whole and the bruised, between the genuine and the faked and between childish naivety and mature ripeness, all of which constitute one wholeness.
The pain of growing up involves a tragic understanding: a contradiction that should needs to be resolved, while a paradox must be contained. Thus, not being judgmental or critical we try as hard as we may to hold to this and that and to drop nothing.
These photographs are about women and by a woman. Men are allowed to observe, to peep maybe and perhaps to pose questions, such as: Considering that in Snow-white a man does rescue the woman from ruin and oblivion, how would the photographs appear should they contain a masculine presence?
